New Diesel Desulfurization Unit

Newfoundland, Canada

Description

The North Atlantic oil refinery, located in Newfoundland, on Canada’s extreme east coast, produces 115,000 barrels per day. Genesys was mandated to conduct the detailed engineering phase for the construction of a new 26 000 BPD hydro treatment unit for the desulfurization of diesel. The work targeted the seamless integration of this AXENS proprietary technology into the existing refinery operations. This implied some process modifications to the satellite units and peripheral equipment found both upstream and downstream of the new unit.

Genesys’ experienced multidisciplinary team was responsible for the design and specification of the new process equipment, which included a high-pressure reactor, several heat exchangers, an amine tower along with their auxiliary pumps and control valves. Genesys successfully managed the procurement activities, including the challenge of having the high-pressure reactor – which was fabricated in India (Mumbai) – delivered to Canada.

Genesys also had its piping design team working on site to identify the process tie-ins, perform the field verifications, establish the final routing and carry out the stress calculations for the piping associated with the entire job.
